Ideas How To Improve Kitchen Storage

I do love my kitchen and I have told my Kitchen Tale in the past all about how we had to redesign our kitchen before we moved into our home. This was such an exciting project for us, but particularly for me. I have never had the opportunity to design my own kitchen before. This is our first house and we hope that it will be our last. When we designed the kitchen we added all of the storage that we could with the budget that we had. However three years down the line we have realised that we need more storage. That is the one thing that we really do lack. This got me thinking to how we can add more storage.

As you can see from the picture above we really do lack storage space. Our kitchen is not long but is very wide. So it is paramount that we utilise the space that we do have to the best of our abilities. I am no interior designer so I did what most of us do, I went online to look for ideas. After looking through many different websites I came across Homify. This website is jam packed full of ideas for every part of your home. From kitchens to dining rooms, from gardens to study and office areas, from living rooms to bedrooms. They have ideas for every room that you may have in your house including the outside area!

We have our living room ideas already. But we need some fresh kitchen ideas. We already know that when we get our extension built it will give us an open plan living/kitchen/dining area. I really want to incorporate the kitchen into our day room. This will enable us to have even more family time. While I am cooking the meal, I am still able to be with the family. We want to have a style which we will be able to coordinate with the living area, it needs to flow and be family friendly. My ideal kitchen is a country kitchen. I love the country, homely kitchen look which will be easy to continue through to the family living area. The kitchen is a big part of our family life. We enjoy eating our meals together as a family and spending quality time together so it has to be practical as we have small children.

While I was browsing through Homify I found so many styles and ideas which I have added to my Home Ideas Pintrest board and I thought that I would share with you some of the beautiful and inspiring ideas that I have found.

Alacena y carrito auxiliar Dorset : Storage by Laura Ashley Decoración

The above larder unit from Laura Ashley would be the perfect replacement for the old unit that we currently have. It not only has plenty of shelving space at the back of the unit but it also utilises the doors to maximise the storage space. I love everything about this piece of furniture, from its visual appearance to its practicality. This is my ideal larder unit!

Everything about the design of this kitchen I adore. The bright, traditional style wallpaper to the large kitchen table in the middle of the room. I could see this design fitting perfectly in our house.

Storage by Schöner Wohnen mit Holz

The spice rack pictured above would free me valuable shelf space. I will admit to having a whole shelf full of herbs and spices. Moving these to a rack would not only make selecting herbs and spices to use during cooking easier but would give me an extra shelf to use.

I could go on all day about different ideas that I have found. Visit my Pintrest board to see all of my ideas. But you can be guaranteed that I will be writing all about the progress and which ideas make it into the finished extension and kitchen refurbishment!

  1. I love the idea of the freestanding Pantry you've shown by Laura Ashley Kirsty, it's a brilliant idea and something which can be tucked away in an alcove next to a chimney breast.
I'd LOVE to redesign our kitchen with new units and a range cooker etc but the one we have has plenty of storage space and is perfectly serviceable....sadly ;-)
